Predeterminers

Sesuai dengan namanya, predeterminer diletakkan sebelum determiner. Jenis kata yang termasuk dalam predeterminer adalah multipliers, fractional expressions, intensifiers, dan kata both, half dan all.


Multipliers atau pengali/pengganda yang umumnya digunakan adalah double, twice, (four/five) times, etc. Multipliers (seperti times) dapat disertai oleh nomina yang diletakkan sebelumnya yang menunjukkan angka atau jumlah.
Contoh:
- My boss is making double my salary.
- Letters were delivered twice a week only.
- This time we added five times the amount of water.

Fractional expressions atau pernyataan pecahan digunakan untuk menunjukkan bagian yang jumlahnya kecil/sedikit dari suatu bagian keseluruhan.
Contoh:
- Charlie finished in one-fourth (of) the time his brother took.- Two-fifths of the respondents reported that half the medication was sufficient.

Intensifiers atau penambah/penguat arti seperti such, what, rather, dan quite digunakan terutama dalam percakapan sehari-hari.
Contoh:
- This room is rather a mess, isn’t it?- The ticket-holders made quite a fuss when they couldn't get in.
- What an idiot he turned out to be.
- Our vacation was such a grand experience.

Half, both, dan all dapat digunakan sebelum singular dan plural count nouns. Untuk half dan all dapat juga digunakan sebelum mass nouns.
Contoh:
- I waited for half an hour.- They had only received half the money promised.
- I want to hear all the details.
- He lost all his money at a blackjack table in Las Vegas.
- I like both these pictures.
